Color-Coded Sheet Music from MusicXML

Give every note a color by its name, C red, D orange and on through the scale in boomwhacker style, or in colors you pick, then print the score as a PDF or save it as PNG. For music classes and young players. Nothing is uploaded.

Runs in your browser: your file never leaves your computer.

How it works

OpenSheetMusicDisplay (OSMD), the MusicXML renderer we maintain, engraves the score and colors each note head by the note's name: every C in one color, every D in the next, in any octave. Its boomwhacker-style set, C red, D orange, E yellow, F green, G teal, A blue and B purple, is close to the colors of the tuned tubes many classrooms play; pick "My own colors" to match your class's instruments or stickers exactly. Rests stay black.

Questions

Is my file uploaded?

No. The score is colored and the PDF is made in your browser, and the file never leaves your computer.

What color does a sharp or flat get?

The color of its letter: C sharp is colored like C, B flat like B. Sets of tuned tubes with extra tubes for the sharps and flats are not matched note for note.

Can I color just the melody?

Untick the other parts: the score is engraved again with the parts that are left, all of them colored. The large staff size makes colored note heads easier to tell apart.
