How it works

OpenSheetMusicDisplay (OSMD), the MusicXML renderer we maintain, engraves the score in your browser: on pages of the paper you choose, or just the measures you pick, in lines as wide as a page or all on one line. The pictures above are exactly what you download.

PNG is a picture made of pixels, which every program can show: in a document, on a slide, in a chat. The resolution sets how many: a page in Sharp (2x) has about 290 pixels per inch of paper, enough for screens and most documents, and in Print (3x) about 430. SVG keeps the music as lines and shapes, sharp at any size, for websites and for editing in a drawing program.

Questions

Is my file uploaded?

No. The score is engraved and the images are made in your browser, and the file never leaves your computer.

How do I get just a few measures?

Choose measures and give the first and the last, as numbered in the score. The excerpt leaves out the title and composer unless you tick them; all on one line makes a strip for a slide or a worksheet.

What happens with a score of several pages?

Each page becomes its own image, and they download together as a ZIP file. To get a single image, pick the measures you need.

Why does the text look different in another program?

An SVG names its fonts instead of carrying them, so a program without Times New Roman shows titles and lyrics in a similar font. The notes are shapes and look the same everywhere. A PNG looks exactly as it does here.

Can I leave out parts?

Yes: untick the parts you don't need, and the music is engraved again with the parts that are left. For a PDF of the pages, use MusicXML and MXL to PDF.
