How it works

Verovio, the open-source music engraving library, reads the MusicXML and writes a Standard MIDI File: one track per part, with the instruments the file names, its tempo marks, and the repeats played out unless you switch them off. It runs in your browser tab.

A MIDI file holds the notes, not the sound: your MIDI player, notation program or DAW decides how it sounds. To hear the score right away, use the MusicXML Player; for an audio file, the MusicXML and MXL to MP3 Converter.

Questions

Is my file uploaded?

No. Verovio reads the file and writes the MIDI in your browser, and the file never leaves your computer.

Why does the first file take a moment?

Verovio itself loads first, about 2.4 MB. After that your browser keeps it, and every further file takes a blink.

Should I play the repeats?

For listening, yes: the MIDI file then plays the piece as performed. Switch them off if you want each written measure exactly once, for example to import the notes into a notation program and compare them with the score.

Are cue notes in the MIDI file?

No. Cue notes are another part's notes printed small for orientation, so they are left out and nothing sounds twice.

Built on Verovio 6.3.0 (LGPL-3.0-or-later).
